Title : TIVOLI Backup Admin
Experience Levels : 2 ½ Years to 5 Years
Qualification : BE / B Tech / ME / M Tech / MCA / MCM / M Sc (Computers / Electronics)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Architect, design, plan, implement, and maintain Enterprise Backup and Recovery environment(s) in multiple regions, involving multiple sites/servers using TSM
• Lead, monitor oversight, manage and report day-to-day backup and recovery support activities including
• Server availability, administrative processes and scheduling
• Client schedules, success/missed/failed reporting
• Tape Library (including VTLs) availability, performance monitoring & reporting of drives and paths
• Ensuring backup and recovery systems and processes are compliant with corporate security policies
• Documentation of infrastructure, software, systems configuration, process and policies
• Monitor and administer TSM applications, administrative processes such as expirations, migration, reclamation and collocation, offsite vaulting, tape/media rotations, etc
• Coordinate with system administrator groups (hardware and operating system diagnostics) to resolve issues related to TSM servers
• Lead technology initiatives for efficient, effective and ahead-of-curve solutions for backups, restores (Data De-Dup, Active Diskpool, TSM v6.1, etc)
• Provide operational support and guidance for non-standard client backup/restores such as TDP for Exchange, TDP for SQL, VMWare Consolidated Backups, etc
• Claim ownership, pool resources, respond and resolve Help Desk tickets related to backups & restore. Plan and support archiving activities and TSM client life cycle processes (install, decommission, migrations/upgrades)
• Detect/diagnose and resolve hardware issues (server, tape library, etc) and interface with vendor, manufacturer for H/W and S/W as necessary
• Maintain current information and help containment of costs for offsite media and documentation storage services, for all regions and locations
• Ensure that all Backup server, tape library hardware and software are maintained to current levels, including system firmware code and that all critical hardware and corresponding appropriate software is placed on service/maintenance contracts. Follow up, periodically, with software upgrades, scheduling for planned implementation of upgrade activities
• Ensure that all changes to all TSM servers/environments are managed and approved via change control processes that adhere to the Corporate IT Policies and procedures
• Provide research and guidance in all technical matters related to the support and operations of the Tivoli Backup systems for the enterprise
• Provide technical leadership and direction to all projects that are requested of the Networks & Operations team and ensure the most appropriate technology is applied in a efficient manner
• Ensure all critical systems are backed up and secured. Enforce, review, supplement and update backup and recovery strategies as needed worldwide
• Ensure all hardware, peripherals are maintained in working order and repaired immediately in the event of failures or malfunction, verify and proactively maintain support agreements and contracts

GENERAL SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Excellent working knowledge and experience working with Tivoli Storage Manager 5.x (Windows / Unix platform)
• Working knowledge of Windows XP/2003/2008, Unix (AIX/Solaris/HP-UX/Linux) Operating system concepts
• Ability to demonstrate working knowledge of networking concepts and technologies including LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHC and NFS
• Breadth and depth experience with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) v5.x backup and restore technologies including setting up client nodes, domains, policy settings, copy groups, include/exclude lists, etc. Good working knowledge and implementation experience with Tivoli Data Protection (TDP) agents for Oracle-RMAN, Exchange & SQL
• Knowledge and experience with 3rd party Tivoli reporting tools such as TSMManager and/or ability to write, execute SQL scripts and reports
• Knowledge and experience with BMR tools and technologies (such as FastBack etc) a plus
• Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with a wide variety of internal and external personnel with emphasis on follow-through and reporting
• Must have excellent organization and technical documentation skills with a strong drive for perfection and ability to work extended hours during the week and on weekends
• Ability to work calmly under pressure and meet deadlines and make modifications to the systems with little or no interruption of service
• Ability to organize projects and tasks according to priorities, demonstrate leadership qualities and display ability to communicate effectively project plans and status
• Must be self-motivated and enjoy a sense of pride in their accomplishments.
• Willing to travel occasionally (domestic and international) and train, educate and dispense Tivoli knowledge as needed

DESCRIPTION:

The Tivoli Backup Administrator is responsible for Enterprise backup and recovery capability using IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) software & other tools, leading installation, administration, scheduling, monitoring, reporting and business continuity and recovery objectives as necessary. Lead and share on-call responsibilities for a 24x7 Enterprise.
